Nigel Farage’s official Facebook page updated its status today.  Among the comments underneath was this piece of vitriol, aimed by someone who supports UKIP, at a commenter who doesn’t.

An abhorrent comment made by a UKIP supporter.

So how did fellow Ukippers respond?

1.  THE ADMINS HAVE NOT REMOVED IT.

Whoever runs Nigel Farage’s official page has not removed the comment.  (And yes, it really is the official page.)  As I type, it has been 5 hours since the comment was written.

2.  NOT ONE UKIP SUPPORTER CONFRONTED THE MAN.

No one responded to the comment to take Mr Scott to task.

3.  ONE GUY EVEN ‘LIKED’ IT.

4.  THEY FAILED TO CONDEMN THE COMMENT…

…even when repeatedly called upon to do so.  Note how the person whom Mr Scott targeted gives the UKIP supporters several chances to condemn the comment.  Their replies were defensive.

UKIP supporters resort to being defensive instead of condemning the rape comment.

5.  DEFLECT WITH: ‘WHAT ABOUT LABOUR?’

If in doubt, revert to the classic deflection tactic of pointing the finger at others, in this case the Labour party.

Is a simple “That’s terrible” so hard to manage?

Update: A UKIP supporter has Tweeted in response to the blog, calling the Labour party the ‘paedophile supporters club’.  Don’t you just love it when a response proves the point of the blog?

2nd Update: Darren Scott’s comments on the page have been deleted, including the outrageous one.  Given that the Nigel Farage page admin has a history of being lenient towards questionable comments, can we assume that Darren Scott got worried and deleted them himself?
